3rd Grade

Morning Offering
God, my Father, I give you today, all that I think, and do and say.
And I unite with all that was done by Jesus Christ,
your dearest Son.

Apostles Creed

I [we] believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I [we] believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son,
our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I [we] believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.

Mary’s Rosary

The complete rosary is composed of twenty decades, divided into four distinct parts, each containing five decades. The first part consists of five joyful events in the life of Jesus and Mary, the second part recalls five sorrowful events, the third part considers five glorious events, and the fourth part celebrates the five luminous events in Jesus’ life.

We begin by making the sign of the cross. Then we say the Apostles Creed, one Our Father, three Hail Marys, and on Glory to the Father (Prayer of Praise) on the small chain. Then recall the first mystery, say one Our Father, ten Hail Marys, and one Glory to the Father. This completes one decade. All the other decades are said in the dame manner with a different mystery meditated upon during each decade. At the end of the rosary, the prayer Hail, Holy Queen may be recited.

The mysteries of the rosary are scenes from the life of Jesus and Mary. By meditating on these sublime truths, we come to a better understanding of our faith: the Incarnation of the Lord, the Redemption, and the Christian life – present and future. In the following outline the words in parentheses indicate practical applications to our daily lives.

Gloria
Glory to God in the highest
and peace to his people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King,
almighty God the Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks,
we praise you for your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us;
You are seated at the right hand of the Father,
receive our prayer.
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it
known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored
your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin
of virgins, my Mother, to you do I come, before you I
stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word
Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy
hear and answer me. Amen. (St. Bernard)

God’s Two Great Commandments

The basis of all law (your rule of life) rests on two commandments:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your mind…
You shall love your neighbor as yourself”
(Matthew 22:37,39).

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful,
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your spirit, and they shall be created,
and you shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray. God, you teach the hearts of your people
by the light of you Holy Spirit. By the same Spirit,
grant that we may judge all things right, and rejoice
always in his comforting.

 Holy Days of Obligation
Holy days of obligation are special feasts on which Catholics who have reached the age of reason are seriously obliged, as on Sundays, to assist at Mass and to avoid unnecessary work. Serious reasons excuse us from these obligations.
In the United States these days are:
Mary, Mother of God - January 1
Ascension Thursday - forty days after Easter
Mary’s Assumption - August 15
All Saints Day - November 1
Mary’s Immaculate Conception - December 8
Christmas - December 25
(In Canada, Christmas and Mary, Mother of God are holy days. Others formerly specified have either been made nonobligatory or transferred to the following Sunday.)

8th Grade

Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God,
Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit he was born of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontious Pilate;
he suffered, died, and was buried.
On the third day, he rose again in fulfillment of the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and hi kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son, he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge on baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
