The Saint Dunstan Community prides itself in the fact that we strive to help those that may be less fortunate than ourselves. Jesus accepted and helped everyone, even to the point of ridicule. Our staff and students believe that helping others is a selfless act that shows love, respect and kindness for others.
Annual Food Drive: Our annual food drive collects almost 1,000 non-perishable food items for our parish food pantry. The food pantry then distributes the food to people in the parish as well as in the local community. Thanksgiving and Christmas are very busy, but our food pantry helps people year round.
American Diabetes Association Walk For A Cure: Each year we participate in the American Diabetes Association walk for a cure. The students get pledges and/or donations and then walk a pre-determined course to "earn" their money. This year (2007-2008) we earned over $2,600 and we are continually one of the "top ten" schools in the region.
Pennies For Patients Drive for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society sponsors a penny drive each year for research that will hopefully one day find a cure. Classrooms are provided clean, empty milk jugs and are asked to fill them with pennies or any other change. The money is then given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Penny Wars: This is a fun competition between all grades. Each class collects pennies brought in by the students. At the end of Catholic Schools Week the pennies are counted for each class. The class that collects the most monies gets a prize, but the real WINNERS are the Charities who benefit from the donations!!
Warming Tree: This is something that will be making its reappearance for the 2008-2009 school year. We will have an artificial Christmas Tree in our lobby and students, families, and staff will be asked to place either hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, or any other cold weather gear on the tree. The items will be given to those in need.
Student Volenteers: Our students give of themselves through many volunteer activities. Some help do small things in and around the building. For example, emptying the recycle boxes throughout the building. Others rake leaves for parish and community members who cannot do so, work at our fish fry, and help set-up or clean-up for special events or celebrations.
We Encourage our school Families to become involved in any and every activity that helps our community and less fortunate. Please feel free to bring up any other activites or events that may help the community and it will be addessed at the next PTG/PAC meetings.
